Welcome to Mimbrenos
The Mimbres
Valley is located in southwestern New Mexico, about seventy miles
from Arizona and seventy miles from Mexico. The area is most famous
for the pottery designs of the Mimbres Indians that inhabited the
area about one thousand years ago. The history
page has a brief history of the area and its former and current
inhabitants. Our elevation runs between five and six thousand feet
above sea level. Cook's Peak (in the banner photo) is 8400 feet.
Surrounding mountains that contribute runoff to the Mimbres River
stand at over ten thousand feet. The area is called high desert.
Nights are cool, even in the summer, days are usually warm, even
in the winter. Rainfall averages about fifteen inches per year,
and most days are at least partly sunny.
Be sure to
check out the Mimbres Gallery to see the
art and neat stuff we locals craft, photograph, paint, or otherwise
have for sale.
The services
page tells a little bit about who offers what services in the valley.
Strangely
enough, the images page
has pictures of the area. You can also view a slide
show
Last year,
the local fireworks were cancelled due to the extreme drought and
fire danger. I put fireworks
on this site so we'd have some. I've left them here because they're
so cool. Thanks to the guy at 'Time Tripper' for making this javascript
available. He's at http://www1.jawink.ne.jp/koji-y/
